The issue of strength of a perfume is one of the most popular for those who buy them. But for perfumers this question is not decisive. After all, one cannot call a chef talented just because he prepares the highest in calories dishes, and in perfumery, the best perfumer is not defined on the basis whether the fragrance is lasting or not.
Longevity and sillage depend on the type of perfume. Here are the main types:
Perfume (Extrait) – the most lasting and expensive type of perfume. The concentration of essential oils is 20% or more, dissolved in almost pure alcohol (96%). They last for about 6 hours
Eau de Parfum (EDP) is the most popular type of perfume. Concentration is about 10%. Longevity is about 4 hours.
Eau de Toilette (EDT) – a light version of perfume. Concentration of about 4-5%. It can be used several times a day and is ideal for summer. It lasts for 2-3 hours.
Deodorant (DEO) – Concentration 1-2%. Lasts for no more than an hour.
Cologne (EDC) – Less than 1%. Stays less than an hour.
