From Perfume Admirer to Perfume Designer…

Part One

I’ve been often asked how it all started…

As one of the world’s top shopping destinations, Dubai is the first port of call for perfume lovers seeking something special. In Dubai souks, shops and the malls, you dive into a world of fragrances from famous names, sitting alongside niche perfumes, including those created by the Arabian perfumeries. I never knew the love for perfumes which started when I was a young kid will transform into developing my own brand Talmira Perfume right here in Dubai.

I’ve developed my love for perfumes since I was 5-year old. I remember my mom had that beautiful lacquered tiny bottle of Magie Noire parfum by Lancôme the scent of which was fascinating, this was and will always remain The Perfume… And when she wasn’t home I would open that black treasure box with awe, get the bottle out and start the ritual of applying the perfume just the way my mom did –

1. patting the bottle cap behind the ears
2. Light touches in the temples
3. Long strokes on the sides of the neck, right, then left
4. Patting the wrists. This scent was divine and would envelop you and fill all space around.
When my mom would come home I’d start telling her a scary story how I was dusting the dresser and the box with the perfume fell and the perfume poured out, so I didn’t want it to be wasted and applied it 🙂

At that time and in my country women were loyal to their perfumes and would use the chosen one for years, so Magie Noire had always been on my mom’s dresser. There were random intruders such ad Anaïs Anaïs, Fidji, J’ai Osé and Climat though and I’d do the same “fallen box” thing with them. I remember all those scents and wish they’ve never been discontinued…
